HNY 2024!

Happy New Year!

I’m trying something new and fun for 2024 — each month I want to feature a different painting, along with a LIMITED SALE of prints for that painting for ONLY that month. Here’s January’s painting.

The original painting is actually painted on top of a print of my wedding bouquet. I had a handful of prints left over from a sale I did a few years back, and decided to upcycle them into new art pieces. What use are they sitting in a box taking up space? My art in 2023 was very much inspired by using what I have on hand. I purchased a few supplies here and there, but for the most part my focus was to use the many MANY art supplies I’ve had for YEARS that just hadn’t been used. The painting I chose to feature this month is most definitely a reflection of using what I already had:

  • Paper was a print of a painting. It had literally been packed up in a box since 2019! For sure needed to give it a new life. I didn’t know if the paper would be friendly with the paint or not, but it worked just fine. Wouldn’t be my first choice, but it has great linen texture which I think adds a nice touch to the final look.

  • The grey/white background layer was a paint sample jar I used to test out wall colors for our new house. (Behr’s Ginger Sugar in case you’re wondering. I love it on my walls! But that’s not what we’re talking about… lol)

  • Then I used my old supply of Prismacolors to add in shapes and more color. I’ve had those colored pencils for.ev.er. They’re lovely and need to be used!

  • The fine black line details are sharpie. I know sharpies aren’t technically artistic or archival quality, but it worked great and I always have them.

  • And finally the shimmery pink lines were done with POSCA paint markers. These were a new purchase and I 100% will get more!

I made a handful of these paintings over prints, I think the collection ended up being a total of 11! I haven’t listed the others in my shop yet, but I hope to soon The January painting is 10x8” and comes with a 14x11” mat. The limited prints will be 10x8”. If they’re calling your name, you can find them both here.

Sending you all good vibes for the new year! It’s gonna be a good one.
